Chroma Clutch

If you're looking for the cutest possible way to use up your yarn stash, you have come to the right place. In this post, I'll share the written pattern I created to make my Chroma Clutch bags. I’ll include useful links to my video tutorial as well as recommended materials to support you through the project.

Choosing the Right Materials

The first step is always selecting quality materials. In attempt to use up yarns from my stash I chose 3 different colors of 4 worsted weight cotton yarn held together.

I used a 6in aluminum frame for the closure & handle of the bag

Pattern

Materials:

• Sugar and Cream / Loops and Thread Cotton Yarn - hold three strands together 

• 12mm Hook

• 8mm Hook

• 6 in Purse Frame

• Stitch Marker

This pattern is worked in a round, from an oval shape, I’ll refer to the two ends where the increases are as "end clusters"

Chain 8

Round 1: skip first ch, 3 sc in second ch from hook to create end cluster 1, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch to create end cluster 2, sc 5 (16 sts)

Round 2: sc 2 in each of the 3 sc in cluster 1, sc 5, sc 2 in each of the 3 sc of cluster 2, sc 5 (22 sts)

Round 3:  (sc in the first st, sc 2 in the next st) 3x in cluster 1, sc 5, (sc in the first st, sc 2 in the next st) 3x in cluster 2, sc 5 (28 sts)

Round 4: (sc 2 in the first st, sc in the next 2 sts) 3x in cluster 1, sc 5, (sc 2 in the first st, sc in the next 2 sts) 3x in cluster 2, sc 5 (34sts)

Round 5: (sc, sc, 2 sc in the 3rd st, sc) 3x in cluster 1, sc 5, (sc, sc, 2 sc in the 3rd st, sc) 3x in cluster 2, sc 5 (40sts)

Round 6-12: sc all the way around (40 sts)

Round 13: Sc 3/4 of the way around the bag, about 28 sts. Begin to attach your frame starting at the end.

Attaching frame

corner 1: holding bag and frame together Sc, (sc inc, sc) x3 - you will have 10 sc across 7 sts to attach the bag to the corner of the frame

handle: sc 10 sts around the frame only

corner 2: skip 6 sts on the bag, then crocheting around the bag and the frame sc 1 into the next st, (sc inc, sc) x3 to finish the fist half of the frame

repeat corner 1, handle, and corner two to attach the other half of the frame

Tie off & weave in ends!
